What is mediation?
Mediation is not an alternative to instructing a legal representative and in fact, to make the full use of mediation, you would be better prepared to have sought legal advice in advance of mediation sessions. The idea behind mediation is for an impartial third party to assist you in communicating directly with your spouse about your main concerns and your thoughts for reaching an agreement both in relation to child arrangements and financial issues. Once you have instructed Betteridges we would be able to advise you about what you can expect from mediation and also what a fair outcome would be. We will then ensure that any resolutions that are agreed at mediation are made binding (drawn up into an appropriate Court Order).
Attempting mediation is only compulsory if you and your partner are unable to come to an agreement about either your children or your finances and believe that you must seek intervention from the courts.
