Mark Betteridge

Director

Originally from a farming background in rural Wales, Mark qualified as a solicitor in 1989 in London, where he gained a wealth of experience, mainly in the High Court. Mark then decided to start his own niche family law firm from his home in Hertford, north of London. Mark believed it was time to offer clients a London style service at a more competitive charging rate. Mark was also one of the first divorce lawyers to take a sensitive, empathetic approach to divorce cases and in doing so, has helped the industry gain a more positive image.

Starting out with one secretary and a telephone, Mark has always believed in getting to know his clients, whether he meets them in person or face to face via the internet. Mark now runs a busy office alongside his wife, Lindsey, who is Betteridges’ Co-Director. They believe that their bespoke, straight-talking approach is where Betteridges differ from other solicitors. They are a niche business who care and have the time to spend listening to clients. Mark is a member of Resolution.

Lindsey Betteridge

Co-Director

Lindsey Betteridge

Co-Director

Over the last 14 years, Lindsey has helped husband Mark build up Betteridges, overseeing practice management, client liaison and business development. Lindsey deals with new enquiries, outlining the ways in which Betteridges can assist and contacting the relevant legal expert within the firm to provide further advice.

Lindsey considers it a great privilege to listen to people who are often going through a difficult time, allowing them to express their concerns and anxieties. She is ever mindful that for a client, the first step in approaching a solicitor can be the most daunting – a fact appreciated by all staff at Betteridges.

Having worked in a large City law firm for many years, Janis left to begin working for Betteridges from its very humble beginnings and was Mark’s secretary from day one.

Although she has assisted with conveyancing when the need has arisen over the years, Janis predominantly assists Mark with all aspects of family law. She feels a much stronger draw to that area of work and can offer the assistance and support that many of our family law clients need at such a difficult time.
